Biology     Glossary (e.g. epibenthic)

Adults occur mainly in river channels and lakes. They feed on the bottom on insects (particularly on trichopterans and chironomids), mollusks, occasionally on fishes (Ref. 6868). Oviparous (Ref. 205). Eggs are guarded by the males (Ref. 45232). Important food fish (Ref. 89718).

Males have been reported to guard both the eggs and larvae in the nest hole, previously dug by the male in the clay bottom (Ref. 4576).

Estimates based on models

Phylogenetic diversity index (Ref. 82804):  PD50 = 0.5001   [Uniqueness, from 0.5 = low to 2.0 = high].
Bayesian length-weight: a=0.00955 (0.00799 - 0.01142), b=2.94 (2.89 - 2.99), in cm total length, based on LWR estimates for this species (Ref. 93245).
Trophic level (Ref. 69278):  3.5   ±0.1 se; based on diet studies.
Resilience (Ref. 120179):  Medium, minimum population doubling time 1.4 - 4.4 years (Preliminary K or Fecundity.).
Fishing Vulnerability (Ref. 59153):  Low vulnerability (25 of 100).
Price category (Ref. 80766):   Unknown.
