Environment: milieu / climate zone / depth range / distribution range
Ecology
Freshwater; demersal; potamodromous (Ref. 51243). Tropical
Asia: Mekong and Chao Phraya basins.
Size / Weight / Age
Maturity: Lm ?  range ? - ? cm
Max length : 20.0 cm SL male/unsexed; (Ref. 43281)
Body depth 3.2-3.7 times in SL; relatively narrow mouth, not occupying the whole width of the head and about 1/2 of maximum head width; only small tubercles on the snout in large individuals (Ref. 27732). Dorsal fin darkened medially; 11-13 predorsal scales; 5+20-25 gill rakers on anterior side of first arch (Ref. 12693).
Inhabits large and medium-sized rivers. Feeds on periphyton and phytoplankton which it scrapes from rocks. In the Mekong of northern Cambodia schools of this species were observed to make scrape marks on rocks about 1 cm wide and 7 or 8 cm long. These marks begin at about a depth of 20 cm and become more and more dense on deeper surfaces. Probably spawns at the onset of the rainy season. Used to make nook mama. Occasionally seen in the aquarium trade (Ref. 12693).
