Atlantic Ocean: Between 29° and 06°N in the tropical eastern Atlantic; at 35°S 40°W in the Southwest Atlantic; from the Gulf of Mexico and southern Sargasso Sea in the western Atlantic. Also tentatively recorded from the western Indian Ocean.

Dorsal soft rays (total): 20 - 21; Anal soft rays: 25 - 26. Body elongate and very slender with a short, blunt nonprotrusible snout. Long chin barbel bearing two long filaments on stem and two short filaments on bulb (Ref. 37039). Body marked with vertical rows of tiny light organs. Dark brown, probably black (Ref. 37473).
