Inhabits clear, cool mountain headwaters and creeks (generally above 2500 m elevation), and mountain lakes. A 95% (stream km) reduction in range has resulted due to hybridization with Oncorhynchus mykiss and competition from Salvelinus fontinalis and Salmo trutta.
