Vertebrae: 34. Distinguished by the following combination of apparently apomorphic characters: posttemporal bone is absent; extrascapular reduced to a bony latero-sensory canal; epioccipital bridge absent; parietal branch of the supraorbital latero-sensory canal restricted to the frontal bone; supraorbitals absent; medial process on rib of fifth vertebral centrum present as a simple bony spine; a well-defined foramen is present on the posterior region of the medial lamina of the coracoid; fifteen or more dorsal-fin rays present; lateral line incomplete; discrete bands or spots absent, except for a diffuse humeral blotch; origin of the anal-fin base located slightly posterior to or in advance of a vertical line drawn from the posterior termination of the dorsal fin; teeth of all jaw bones conical; body slab sided, relatively short; the anterior portion of pterotic latero-sensory canal does not enter the sphenotic; sphenotic bone, state 0 = sphenotic separated from the posttemporal fossa by presence of an articulation of the parietal and pterotic, state 1, sphenotic enlarged posteriorly and forming a part of the anterior border of the posttemporal fossa; circuli are present on the posterior or apical field of the lateral body scales (Ref. 34069).
