Etymology: Nannostomus: Latin, nannus = small + Greek, stoma = mouth (Ref. 45335).

Issue
The most recent distributional records were published by Weitzman & Weitzman (1982: Fig. 229). Most recent systematic descriptions are by Weitzman (1966) and Weitzman & Cobb (1975). Weitzman & Cobb (1975) published photographs of growth stages of juveniles demonstrating that Archicheir minutus is a juvenile of Nannostomus harrisoni. Occasionally exported as an aquarium fish, Weitzman et al. (2001).
