Dorsal spines (total): 7; Dorsal soft rays (total): 8 - 9; Anal spines: 1; Anal soft rays: 8 - 9; Vertebrae: 27. Upper side of body with 3 or 4 narrow dusky stripes (Ref. 43716). TRB 6-8; predorsal scales 8-12; preoperculum with small cycloid scales at least ventrally; profile rather pointed; upper jaw somewhat protrusible, mouth tends to open down and forward; spines 3rd and 4th on first dorsal fin very long but usually not free from membrane; gill arches papillose with short papillose rakers on outer face of first arch; inner and outer faces of other gill arches with oval papillose pads (Ref. 43716).
Facultative air-breathing in the genus (Ref. 126274); Found exclusively on sandy bottoms (Ref. 43716).
