Africa: Cameroon (Sanaga, Nyong, and Bénoué Rivers), Guinea (Konkouré River), Sierra Leone (Sewa and Jong Rivers) and in the upper Niger.

Dorsal spines (total): 0; Dorsal soft rays (total): 26 - 35; Anal spines: 0; Anal soft rays: 39 - 45. Characterized by long narrow chin which looks like that of a horse. The head narrows from the gills to the snout. Interorbital space narrow (head length/width of interorbital space 9.5-17.5). Eyes situated dorsally. LS/body depth 6.3-7.9. Color uniformly dark.
