It has a body with seven wide equal width dark-brown bands that alternates with faint grey bands of unequal widths. The head has five to eight dark-brown bands with gray interspaces, forming a star-like pattern radiating outward from the eye. A distinct white margin is also found on its caudal, dorsal and anal fins.
