Differs from its congeners in Black and Caspian Sea basins by the possession of the following characters: breast without scales between pectorals or scales present only along midline; barbel extending between anterior eye margin and middle of eye; snout length 0.8-0.9 times in postorbital distance; head length 26-32% SL; head depth 17-18% SL at nape; 45-54% HL at eye; body depth 21-24% SL; head width 16-19% SL, 54-61% HL; eye diameter 5-7% SL, 2.8-3.5 times in head depth, 1.3-1.8 times in interorbital distance (at 7-10 cm SL); and caudal peduncle depth 29-34% HL (Ref. 59043).
Inhabits streams in foot hills and lowlands with moderate current. Size reaches up to about 13 cm SL (Ref. 59043).
