It is a large whitefish species characterized by strong pigmentation on all fins and the body. The flanks above the lateral line display a greenish-blue coloration. It is deep-bodied (23.2-26.6% SL, mean = 24.4), has a blunt snout, and a short head (19.8-21.8% SL, mean = 20.9). The mouth is sub-terminal, and the small eyes (eye diameter: 18.2-21.7% HL, mean = 19.9) are set in thick, triangular-shaped sockets. The caudal peduncle is short and robust (caudal peduncle depth: 6.7-8.1% SL, mean = 7.2; caudal peduncle length: 12.2-14.4% SL, mean = 13.1). The species also has relatively few, short gill rakers (longest gill raker: 8.9–12.4% HL, mean = 10.1; total gill raker number: 21-27).
