Marine; brackish; pelagic-neritic; depth range 0 - 50 m (Ref. 189). Tropical; 2°N - 6°S, 102°E - 118°E (Ref. 189)
Western Central Pacific: Indonesia (southwestern coast of Kalimantan from Pontianak to the Barito River; also Palembang on the Musi River, Sumatra).

Dorsal spines (total): 0; Anal spines: 0; Anal soft rays: 80. Body tapering, belly rounded in front of pelvic fins, with 11 or 12 + 9 to 11 = 20 to 23 keeled scutes from isthmus to anus. Maxilla short, not reaching beyond edge of gill cover. Pectoral fin with 10 or 11 long filaments and 7 or 8 branched fin rays, much shorter than those of pelvic fin.
Occurs in coastal waters and in estuaries, but the extent of its movements into the sea and up rivers is not known. Rare in museum collections but this may not reflect its actual abundance.
