This species differs from C. granoei and C. melanoleuca by the following characters: small meniscus lamina circularis at the base of the 1st branched pectoral fin ray in males (vs. knife lamina circularis in C. melanoleuca; larger semilunar lamina circularis in C. granoei); slender and straight suborbital spine, with long processus latero-caudalis, less than one-second of the processus medio-caudalis (vs. thick and straight suborbital with short processus latero-caudalis in C. melanoleuca; slender and curved suborbital spine with long processus latero-caudalis in C. granoei); and upper jet black spot pigmentation at the base of caudal fin inconspicuous or absent (vs. conspicuous in C. melanoleuca and C. granoei) (Ref. 128861).
