Etymology: Caecocypris: Latin, caecus = blind + Greek, Kypris = Aphrodite, coming form Kypris / Cyprus, Greek, kyprinos = carp (Ref. 45335).
Eponymy: Dr Basim M Al-Azzawi was a collector with the Natural History Research Centre, University of Baghdad. He lectured on blindfishes to the Port Macquaries Convention (2015). He collected the holotype (1977). (Ref. 128868), visit book page.

Asia: monotypic genus much rarer than Typhlogarra widdowsoni in the subterranean system in a sinkhole at the Sheik Hadid shrine, near Haditha (circa 34°4'N, 42°24'E) (Ref. 5326).
