This species is distinguished by the following characters: fused basioccipital and exoccipitals; supraoccipital-exoccipital articulation broadly contacting; ceratohyal-epihyal articulation interdigitating; short post-temporal ventral ramus; 2 posterior nasal pores; cranium narrow; no supratemporal commissure and occipital pores; intercalar set posteriorly; well developed palatal arch; posterior hyomandibular ramus not elongate; high parasphenoid wing; 6 branchiostegal rays; vertebrae asymmetrical; pelvic fin rays ensheathed; scales, lateral line, pyloric caeca, palatine and vomerine teeth present (Ref. 81216).
