This species is distinguished by the following: tail slightly longer than head and trunk; differs from B. kabeyawan in having a less slender body, its depth 1.5% TL (vs. 1.1% TL in B. kabeyawan), upper jaw long, 23.3-24.7% HL (vs. 19.8% HL); uniserial teeth on maxilla (vs. uniserial on anterior third and biserial on posterior two-third); body distinctly red when fresh (vs. grayish black dorsally, pale ventrally) (Ref. 127464).
