Diagnosed from its congeners in Europe by having the following characters: anal fin with 11½ branched rays; 42-44 + 2-3 scales on lateral line; caudal peduncle 1.6-1.8 times longer than deep; snout length equal to eye diameter; interorbital distance about equal to eye diameter; and marked concavity at nape, mouth distinctly upturned (Ref. 59043).
Occurs in surf zone along lake shores. Reaches up to about 9.0 cm SL (Ref. 59043).
