Northwest Pacific: Gulf of Tonkin and China. This species is rare in collections, and may be misidentified as Sillago sihama.

Dorsal spines (total): 12; Dorsal soft rays (total): 21; Anal spines: 2; Anal soft rays: 21 - 22; Vertebrae: 38. Body is olive-yellow dorsally, becoming paler on the sides and abdomen. The cheeks and part of the operculum orange-yellow; the fins uniformly grayish, with some indication of dots on the rays of the second dorsal fin. One or two yellow-orange stripes run along the sides of the body.
