Etymology: Corythoichthys: Greek, korys, korythos = helmet + Greek, ichtys = fish (Ref. 45335); quattuordecim: Name 'quattuordecim' from the Latin word meaning 'fourteen', in reference to the 14 trunk rings in the new species.

Dorsal soft rays (total): 27; Anal soft rays: 4. This species is distinguished from its congeners by the following set of characters: trunk rings 14; total rings 51 or 52; pectoral fin rays 16 or 17 usually 16; dorsal fin origin behind posterior margin of anal ring; opercle with a denticulate longitudinal ridge; opercle with two or three black lines; absence of rows of pale spots on dorsal fin; venter of anterior trunk rings without blotches, spots, or lines; and venter of anal ring without black blotch (Ref. 137735).
