Etymology: Betta: Malay/Javanese origin. Bleeker (1850, 1858) indicates Ikan Wadder Bettah as the local name of Betta trifasciata Bleeker, 1849 (now Betta picta, Valenciennes, 1846) in the Ambarawa Javanese dialect. This fighting fish species is collected from a shallow, clear-water hill stream habitat, bordered by overhanging vegetation, situated at the edge of a dense forest canopy. The substrate was composed mainly of pebbles, sand and silt (Ref. 123126). Maximum size based on holotype specimen (Ref. 123126).
