This species can be distinguished from all congeners except A. jamesi, A. manamensis and A. perezi, by having GR 12-15 (vs. 16-35) in the lower branch of the 1st gill arch. On the other hand, it differs from A. jamesi, A. manamensis and A. perezi by having 9.5-14.8% head length (vs. up to 6.0% HL) distance between verticals through the posterior margin of the orbit to the posterior margin of the upper jaw (Ref. 128810).
