Short description
Identification keys | Morphology | Morphometrics
This species can be distinguished from other congeners by the following set of characters on males: unique color pattern consisting of oblique, sometimes chevron-like, irregular rows of red and light blue double-dots on body; dark yellowish to golden pectoral fin with no visible markings (dots or spots); and stripe pattern on the ventral part of caudal-fin with very narrow black marginal line that may be intermittent or even absent (Ref. 128719).
Collected in shallow temporary pools, partially covered by floating leaves and plant foliage. Soft bottom with mud over compact, dark brown to blackish clay (Ref. 128719). This species adapts remarkably well to stress. It can leap out of water to escape predators and stay attached to some foliage for several hours (Ref. 128720).
