It is distinguished by having 33-34 free vertebrae, minimal coloration, reduction or absence of cornea, long nasal and maxillary barbels, nine branching pectoral-fin rays, where the first ray is prolonged as a long filament (to about 80% of pectoral-fin length), a rounded caudal fin, the upper part longer than the lower part and a coloration of light-red to pale rose.
This endemic species is exclusive to hipogean environments of the de Gedania cave, near Gran Curi River, Magdalena River system, Colombia. The largest specimen observed was 7.99 cm, standard length (Ref. 119397).
