Dorsal soft rays (total): 17; Anal soft rays: 20. This species of nominative subgenus (sensu Prokofiev, 2015) is distinguished by the following characters: a pair of parallel, clearly delineated stripes of blue luminous tissue on isthmus before IP photophores, further posteriorly fuzzy, at level of first and second photophores passing to outside of IP photophores; presence of additional diffuse stripe above most anterior PV photophores; with mental barbel of characteristic structure; strongly shortened gill filaments in upper half of ceratobranchial-1; patches of black tissue on snout, in upper part of opercle, and behind end of maxillary (Ref. 125185).
