Short description

Dorsal soft rays (total): 42; Anal soft rays: 36. This species is distinguished by the following set of characters: vertebral column has a deep curve, vertebrae 46 (8 + 38); no pleural ribs; 42, including 5 precaudal; A 36, pectoral-fin rays about 24, C 8 (principal rays); hypural plate unslitted; pores 2-5-6-1; head 24.4 % SL, preanal 34.9 % SL; pelvic disk 38 % lc (head length). Colour when fresh pale pinkish with head and peritoneum black (Ref. 123108).
Cross section: circular.
The sediment from the Agassiz trawl was a mixture of sand, pebbles and stones, and numerous large fragments of dead and living glass sponges. Invertebrates found were dominated by at least 5 species of isopods and caprellids attached to colonies of hydroids (5 - 6 species), some benthopelagic shrimps (2 - 3 species), and a few gastropods and ophiurids (Ref. 123108).
