Dorsal spines (total): 5; Dorsal soft rays (total): 8; Anal spines: 1; Anal soft rays: 7. This species is distinguished by the following characters: second dorsal fin with a total of 9 unbranched rays; anal fin with 8 unbranched rays; a very small preopercular spine with an upcurved main tip and one point on the dorsal margin, which is lacking an antrorse spine at the base; first and second spines of the first dorsal fin filamentous, much longer than the first ray of the second dorsal fin in males; tip of the last ray of the second dorsal fin reaching beyond the caudal fin base in males, and the anal fin distally black in males (Ref. 106320).
Collected in one sample at 113 m on a coarse sand bottom with many deep sea oyster shell remains (Neopycnodonte cochlear). Arnoglossus thori Kyle, 1913 was the most abundant fish species associated with this species (Ref. 106320).
