Dorsal soft rays (total): 12; Anal soft rays: 8; Vertebrae: 24 - 35. Distinguished from its congeners in having a combination of the following characters: midventral region between pectoral fins scaleless; two rows of spots on dorsal-fin rays present; two black bars on caudal fin present, one complete in middle and another incomplete just posterior to caudal-fin base; lateral line with squarish to rectangular black patches, anterior patches obscured by the background pigmentation, patches decrease in size posteriorly; pectoral fin with v-vi unbranched rays; caudal fin with 10 + 9 principal rays; and lateral line with 32-33 (Ref. 95115).
