Dorsal soft rays (total): 10 - 11; Anal soft rays: 7 - 8; Vertebrae: 39 - 40. Diagnosed from all species of Homatula by the following combination of characters: body naked with very variable color pattern, anteriorly with bars joined dorsally and posteriorly stripes that may enclose a series of pale ovoid blotches along midlateral line; caudal fin emarginate; 7 1/2-8 1/2 branched dorsal-fin rays; axillary pelvic lobe absent or rudimentary; both lips thin, nearly smooth (lower lip with 1-2 furrows on each side); no median notch on lower jaw (Ref. 93166).
Inhabits streams with clear water, slow current and rocky bottom (Ref. 93166).
