Short description
Identification keys | Morphology | Morphometrics
Dorsal soft rays (total): 7; Anal soft rays: 4 - 5. This species can be diagnosed from other congeners in the Middle East by its unique color pattern consisting of 7-9 distinct dark saddles never forming a lateral stripe (vs. mottled or presence of a lateral stripe). It further differs from other species by the combination of the following characters: deeply emarginated caudal fin; distance from anus to anal-fin origin 0.4-0.5 times in the distance from pelvic-fin to anal-fin origins; and 13 fixed nucleotide substitutions in the mtDNA COI barcode region studied (Ref. 95534).
At the type locality, the stream Tang-e-Tizab is about 20 m wide and has fast-running water and substrate consisting of coarse gravel and boulders (Ref. 95534).
