Dorsal spines (total): 7; Dorsal soft rays (total): 7; Anal spines: 1; Anal soft rays: 7; Vertebrae: 22 - 24. Color pattern consists of red brown with yellowish to orange second dorsal, anal, pectoral and caudal fins. The upper part of the first dorsal fin is orange; the middle and lower parts are mottled grayish to black. No spots on caudal fin. Having 22-28 scales in transverse forward series, 18-21 scales in transverse back series and 16-23 scales in predorsal series (Ref. 91761).

Inhabits estuaries and lower parts of coastal streams, usually over rocky or gravel bottoms. Feeds on small shrimps and fish. Spawns in freshwater, its embryos drift downstream to the sea where they undergo a planktonic phase, before returning to the rivers to grow and reproduce (Ref. 91761).
