Etymology: Chiloglanis: Greek, cheilos = lip + Greek, glanis = a fish that can eat the bait without touching the hook; a cat fish (Ref. 45335).

Ecology
Freshwater; benthopelagic. Tropical
Africa: lower Congo, Kasai, Kwango, Dja, Aruwimi, Wagenia Falls, Lualaba and upper Lualaba in Cameroon, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Republic of Congo and Angola (Ref. 11970, 12818, 87986, 106245, 106290). Also in the Rungumba River (Lake Tanganyika affluent) in Democratic Republic of the Congo (Ref. 12818). Probably absent from West-Central and West Africa, where Chiloglanis batesii is found; reports of the latter from the Congo basin probably refer to Chiloglanis micropogon.

Chiloglanis micropogon can be distinguished from C. batesii by the presence of a distinctive pair of papillae on the roof of the oral cavity, a greater number of dentary teeth, relatively blunt tipped teeth, and a relatively continuous ridge of soft tissue directly posterior to dentary teeth (Ref. 87986).
