Dorsal spines (total): 3; Dorsal soft rays (total): 12 - 13; Anal spines: 1; Anal soft rays: 9; Vertebrae: 27 - 29. This species is distinguished by the following characters: spined posterior and lower margins of the praeoperculum with an unspined notch in the angular part of it; insertion of ventral fins at the level of the vertical of the posterior margin of the pectoral fin insertion; upper jaw extends beyond the vertical of posterior eye margin; soft rays 12-13 in dorsal fin, 9-10 in anal fin; first branchial arch with 27-30 rakers; vertebrae 27-29; pyloric caeca 7 (Ref. 83719).
