Short description
Identification keys | Morphology | Morphometrics
Dorsal soft rays (total): 10 - 11; Vertebrae: 39 - 41. Diagnosed from other species of Hemibrycon by the possession of the posterior end of the extrascapular spine surpassing the postemporal and the posterior end of the first proximal pterygiophores of dorsal fin of the same size as the anterior edge. Distinguished from Hemibrycon colombianus in having 40-44 pored scales in the lateral line; and from other species from the upper and middle Magdalena drainage by the absence of a lateral band and the presence of a pigmented adipose fin (Ref. 83529).
Inhabits creeks with surface temperature 15.8-27.5°C, air temperature 17.3-21.4°C, dissolved oxygen 4.3-7.9mg/l and 87-99% saturation, pH 6.9-8.1, width 2-10m, substrate composed of stone and sand, and water coffee colored (Ref. 83529).
