This species is characterized by the following: caudal peduncle with 3-5 spines along both dorsal and ventral margins; caudal fin rays bifurcated except upper- and lowermost 2 (rarely 1) simple rays; shallow body depth 2.82-3.20 in SL (Ref. 83388).
