This species is distinguished by having 3 pairs of basibranchial tooth patches; D 26-31, A 30-33, the sum of dorsal- and anal-fin rays 56-63; male postorbital organ length moderate, specimens greater than 6.0 cm, 54.5-103.2% fleshy orbit, 9.6-24.8% JL; male anterior orbital organ length moderate, specimens grater than 6.0 cm, 11.2-25.1% fleshy orbit, 2.3-4.4% JL (Ref. 75669).
