Its type locality is a clearwater, moderately fast flowing, large stream (4-5 m wide, 0.5 - 2 m deep), mainly with sandy bottom (Ref. 72399). Except one specimen taken at the main channel of the stream, all specimens were collected at backwaters, near marginal macrophytes (Ref. 72399). Forms large schools (>50 individuals) at the river bank, sheltered among dead, submerged saplings (Ref. 72399). Insects (mainly ants), vegetal matter and algae are found in the stomach contents (Ref. 72399).
