Etymology: Hemiculter: Greek, hemis = the half + Latin, culter = knife (Ref. 45335).
Eponymy: Nikolai Arkadevich Warpachowski was a Russian ichthyologist who named the species Hemiculter bleekeri and the related genus Hemiculterella in the Bulletin of the St Petersburg Academy of Sciences (1888). (Ref. 128868), visit book page.
