Diagnosis: conspicuous discrete dark spot present on upper pectoral fin base (if specimen is very dark spot may not be highly contrasted but is still distinct; sensory papillae on upper rear field of opercle form a single arching row; 54-63 scales in longitudinal series, usually 56 or more (Ref. 81660).
