Etymology: Pseudocrossocheilus: Greek, pseudes = false + Greek, krossoi = tassel + Greek, cheilos = lip; papillolabrus: From the Latin Papillo meaning papilla and labra meaning lip, in reference to its densely covered papillae on the lower lip and the width of the papillate area being larger than other species of Sinocrossocheilus (Ref. 50421).

Body large; papillate band on lower lip wide (44.4%-66.7% of eye diameter); 4-5 rows of horny tubercles on snout tip and confined to premargin of nostril; eye large (33.3%-45.5% of interorbital width); maxillary barbels longer than or equal to rostral ones and shorter than eye diameter (60%-89% of eye diameter); ventral fin extending over anus; pectoral fin well developed and strong (20%-22% of SL); 2-3 lateral line scales between pectoral fin and ventral fin (Ref. 50421).
Found in rivers, in the lower layer of fast-flowing areas or montane streams (Ref. 50421).
