Dorsal spines (total): 0; Dorsal soft rays (total): 12 - 13; Anal spines: 0; Anal soft rays: 8 - 9; Vertebrae: 32 - 33. Distinguished from all other Characidium species by the presence of black marks along the sides of the body, superimposed on the vertical bars, which occur in most species of the genus; most of the marks are vertically oriented elliptical, except anteriormost 1-2 marks, which may be roundish or horizontally elongated (Ref. 46824).

Estimates based on models

Phylogenetic diversity index (Ref. 82804):  PD50 = 0.5000   [Uniqueness, from 0.5 = low to 2.0 = high].
Bayesian length-weight: a=0.01230 (0.00479 - 0.03160), b=3.00 (2.77 - 3.23), in cm total length, based on LWR estimates for this (Sub)family-body shape (Ref. 93245).
Trophic level (Ref. 69278):  3.3   ±0.3 se; based on size and trophs of closest relatives
Fishing Vulnerability (Ref. 59153):  Low vulnerability (10 of 100).
