This species is distinguished by the following characters: D 110-114; A 87-99; total vertebrae 68-69; extensive squamation on opercle, preopercle and occiput; transversal scale rows 35-40 on trunk above beginning of anal fin; otolith elongate (OL:OH = 1.65-1.75), with inner face more strongly convex than outer one (Ref. 126178).

Rare species (Ref. 34024). Reproductive strategy possibly similar to other members of this family featuring oviparity, with oval pelagic eggs floating in a gelatinous mass (Ref. 205).
