Environment: milieu / climate zone / depth range / distribution range
Ecology
Freshwater; benthopelagic; potamodromous (Ref. 51243). Tropical; 25°C - 30°C (Ref. 2060)
Africa: Niger and some other coastal basins of Guinea and Sierra-Leone, the Kribi River in Cameroon (Ref. 3203).
Length at first maturity / Size / Weight / Age
Maturity: Lm ?, range 5 - ? cm
Max length : 16.0 cm SL male/unsexed; (Ref. 2915)
Dorsal spines (total): 0; Dorsal soft rays (total): 14 - 17; Anal spines: 0; Anal soft rays: 28 - 33. SL/BD = 4.4-6.1. Dorsal much smaller than anal inserted almost midway from origin of anal (Dorsal-Anal fin base ratio 0.32-0.46). Pectorals at most as long as head with posterior end not extending beyond origin of pelvic fins. Thin caudal peduncle with height 22.6-31.5 x SL. Color similar to B. brachyistius. Snout projecting and curved downward.(Ref.4967)
Affinities: related to Brienomyrus brachyistius, distinguished by longer anal fin in Brienomyrus longianalis and by lower peduncle height SL ratio. May be limited to the delta and the lower reaches of rivers (Ref. 3203).
