Etymology: Sargocentron: Greek, sargos = sargus + Greek, kentron = sting (Ref. 45335).
Eponymy: Mary Ann ‘Poco’ Holloway, according to Woods, “…has prepared illustrations of many species of berycids.” We have been unable to find biographical details. (Ref. 128868), visit book page.

Max length : 11.0 cm TL male/unsexed; (Ref. 7251)
Dorsal soft rays (total): 13; Anal soft rays: 8 - 9. Body and fins red with black blotch on membrane between first 4 spines of dorsal fin. Blackish spot or saddle on caudal peduncle (Ref. 7251). Pectoral axil pale (Ref. 37108).
Body shape (shape guide): fusiform / normal.
Probably more common on shelf-edge reefs (Ref. 51183).
