Dorsal soft rays (total): 9; Anal soft rays: 27 - 31. Has 24-28 branched anal rays; a submarginal stripe only in the upper caudal-fin lobe (Ref. 27732).

Occurs at the surface in medium-sized rivers. Diet is probably similar to O. anomalura including chironomids and small mollusks. Rarely seen at fish markets.
