This species is possibly a synonym of Careproctus ostentum Gilbert, 1896 following Chernova et al. (2004: Ref. 51661). Please send references or more studies are needed.

Northeast Pacific: Alaska to Oregon, USA (Ref. 6885). Recorded from the southeastern Bering Sea, Aleutian Islands, British Columbia off Prince Rupert, Hecate Strait, and Seymour Inlet (Ref. 26773).

Dorsal spines (total): 0; Dorsal soft rays (total): 55; Anal spines: 0; Anal soft rays: 46 - 48. Dorsal and anal fins extending to about halfway along caudal; caudal fin narrow, truncate; middle rays of pectorals short, lower rays much exserted; pelvic fins modified a adhesive disc with a thickened margin, small slightly wider than long (Ref. 6885). Creamy white to pale pink, sometimes pale brown dorsally; dusky on fins; silvery on lower half of blue eyes (Ref. 6885).
