Adult of this species is distinguished from all congeners by the following combination of characters: no pelvic frenum; pelvic fins separate for the entire length; presence of a black spot posteriorly on first dorsal fin, the spot usually between ninth and the ultimate spine; first dorsal fin (D1) is taller than second dorsal fin (D2); the interdorsal distance less than half the length of the first dorsal-fin spine; D1XI-XV; D2 I,10 - I,12; anal-fin elements I,10 - I,12; pectoral-fin rays 10-12; longitudinal scale rows 42-54; predorsal midline 14-19 (Ref. 111149). |
