This species is distinguished by the following characters: a distinct crescent-shaped bar present on the posterior edge of the pectoral base, it extends onto the base of the fin rays; scaleless head and predorsal midline; interorbital and postorbital trenches well-developed; fifth pelvic fin ray branches dichotomously twice (Ref. 118045).
