Diagnosis

Body relatively deep, about 20%SL. Caudal peduncle moderately long (<18%SL). Vertical fin bases almost opposite to each other, the length of bases <20% SL. Head relatively deep and wide (eye width >10%SL). Snout relatively short, length not reaching orbit diameter; olfactory bulbs very big; ethmoid in olfactory bulb region very narrow. Eyes very large. Photophores present on the head, along the rays of the gill membrane and on the surface of the lower jaw seismosensory canals; also on the membranes of A,P, and V. Pyloric caeca < 10. (Ref. 36330).
