This species is redescribed based on 46 specimens including the holotype: differs from Ophichthus altipennis by having a relatively acute snout (vs. strongly acute in O. altipennis), presence of irregular obscure bars on the body (vs. absence), predorsal 11-13 (vs. 8-9) and preanal 61-63 (vs. 52-58) vertebrae, predorsal 10-14 (vs. 7-9) and preanal 59-64 (vs. 55-61) lateral-line pores, dorsal-fin origin usually above or behind the pectoral-fin insertion (vs. anterior to the insertion), and tail broad and tapered slowly ( vs. becoming slender and tapered rapidly) (Ref. 132095). |
