Diagnosis

Diagnosis: dorsal profile arched; deep body; body depth 3.3-3.6x SL; depth of caudal peduncle 0.6-0.7x its length; numerous gill rakers: 57-69 (50-150mm) and 78 (150-250 mm); scale formula 5.5/36/4.5; 3.5-4.5 scales between lateral line and pelvic-fin base; 16 scales around caudal peduncle; 10 dorsal fin branched rays; known from Liberia (Ref. 2940, 81282).

Description: snout broad, mouth rounded; anterior barbels absent or reduced, posterior barbels short; caudal peduncle short and deep; dorsal fin rather long, its distal margin slightly concave; gill rakers long and slender (3 mm long at angle of gill arch), those on lower limb of first gill arch numbering 57-69 (size 50 – 150 mm SL) to 78 (in type specimen of 157 mm); D:IV,10; A:III,5; P:17; V:I,8 (Ref. 2940, 81282).

Coloration: preserved specimen are brown above and lighter on belly; sides with rather faint longitudinal bands between scale (Ref. 2940, 81282).
